Hike in Style in Kokanee Glacier Park

Our 55+ mountaineering camps are for young-at-heart hikers who want to connect with other adventurers and explore the stunning hiking at Kokanee Cabin. Whether you are looking for stunning vistas, the perfect patch of wild flowers, or connections with other hikers, this camp has something for you!

For 2023, our 55+ program will be journeying to Kokanee Glacier Park. Taking advantage of the Kokanee Cabin's spacious and modern amenities to fully explore this gorgeous landscape with other passionate hikers will surely be an unforgettable experience.

Camp Objectives

  Kokanee Cabin offers access to amazing hiking from the moment you leave the trail head.

The Kaslo and Gibson Lake trails used to access the hut.

Day by Day Adventure Itinerary 
  •  
  • Day 1 : Meet at the trailhead and review basic safety before heading into the hut. 
  • Day 2-4: Enjoy Kokanee Glacier parks trails during the day and relax in the hut with a scrumptious meal prepared by a chef
  • Day 5: Enjoy a final day of hiking before heading back to the trailhead
Is this Camp For Me?
Intermediate Hiking

First things first. This camp is for those 55 years or older to enjoy the camaraderie and social opportunity of being in a group of similar age and ambition. There is no maximum age limit on the camp, but you must be medically able to handle the demands of high altitude and strenuous exercise. You will have the option to take a rest day in the chalet or possibly on an easier hike, but at minimum you must have a good level of fitness and be able to carry up to a 9 - 11kg (20 - 25lb) day pack for several hours.

Food, Accommodation and Guiding

Food

Our camp cook, will prepare a full menu of scrumptious meals each day of the camp. We’re able to accommodate most allergies, medical dietary restrictions and vegetarian diets. Additional surcharges apply for vegan, lactose-free, or gluten-free diets. 

 
Accommodation

The Kokanee Glacier Cabin is one of the ACC's most modern huts, providing a fresh spacious basecamp from where the park can be explored.

Guiding

Our guiding ratio will be a maximum of 8:1 but if the camp fills the ratio will be 5:1!

The ACC hires guides certified by the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG). Visit the ACMG website to learn more about what they do!

Rentals

If you don't have everything on the gear list and aren't ready to invest in your own, there are many awesome local businesses that rent out all of the equipment you will need.  Be sure to reserve your rentals ahead of time to make sure everything you need is available for you when you need it.

    • Our ACMG certified guides have experience and training to manage this risk
    • Radios and/or other communication devices
    • Your guide will be carrying bear spray if an encounter is possible
  • Communication, rescue, and medical treatment
    • Communication can be difficult and in the event of an accident rescue and treatment may not be available
    • Adverse weather may also delay the arrival of treatment or transportation out of the field,
    • Alpine weather conditions can be extreme and change rapidly without warning making travel by helicopter, dangerous
    • If an injury occurs in challenging terrain movement to an evacuation point may be slow
