This camp is open for registration over the phone. We have room for 3 groups of 2. Each couple will be sharing a cabin and due to Covid must be from the same pod. Please call Tara at 403-678-3200 ex: 218 to see what configurations are available and to book over the phone.

A Step (or 5) Above Glamping...

Shadow Lake Lodge is nestled near the towering grandeur of My Ball. It's easily accessible with the trail head not far from the Town of Banff and the hike is a fairly gradual 14km hike in on an old fire road. Private cabins and gourmet meals provide a relaxing and comfortable base for the guided day hikes that we will take you on in this camp. All meals withe exception of lunch on the first day are provided by the experienced kitchen team and professional chef. The lodge is equipped with a full commercial kitchen.

The lodge is the perfect base camp as it sets you up for many hikes that take you quickly into the alpine and to come amazing view points. The ratio for this camp is 6 participants to one guide.

Trails include Gibbon Pass, Pharaoh Creek to Egypt Lakes, Whistling Pass and more.
Camp Objectives

Hike, hike and hike! Guides know the best lookouts to take photos and all the best trails but some classic hikes are:Gibbon Pass, Whistling Pass and Pharaoh Creek to Egypt Lakes.

Day by Day Adventure Itinerary

  • Day 1: Meet your group at the Red Earth Creek Parking Lot at 8:00am and walk the 13km road in. On the road watch out for Terry the Grouse. Unload at the cabins then walk 1km to go check out Shadow Lake.
  • Days 2, 3 and 4 (general itinerary):
  • 0700: Breakfast (rotating kitchen schedule to allow for social distancing) and pack lunches.
  • 0830: Hikes Depart!
  • 1630: Head back to the cabins for tea and a snack.     
  • 1800: Dinner (rotating kitchen schedule to allow for social distancing).
  • 1930: Free time to journal, read, share stories or play a card game.
  • Day 5: Pack up and head back down the road.
Is this Camp For Me?

This camp is designed for anyone who wants to hike in the mountains. You don’t need previous hiking experience but you should be prepared to walk 4-7 hours with a light day bag and walk the 14km trail in with all your gear for the camp. See gear list for things to pack. Some trails will be rocky and uneven but no climbing is necessary.

Food, Accommodation and Guiding

Food

We are very excited to share the meals prepared in the onsite commercial kitchen by our professional chef at the lodge. Breakfast, lunch, tea + goodies and Dinner will be served each day. On top of that there is an extensive wine and beer list to quench the post-hike thirst (subject to additional cost).

Guiding

Our maximum 6:1 guiding ratio will give you the best possible chance of success. This camp is guided by Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) certified Hiking Guide.

Your Guides

Alison Cardinal

Alison moved to Canmore from Northern Ireland, and has spent a lot of time hill walking in the rain in Scotland as well as climbing and skiing in Chamonix, the Dolomites, the Pyrenees and Kenya. She is a certified backpacking guide and apprentice ski guide certified through the ACMG. Alison is an active trip leader with the Rocky Mountain Section and the National office.
